The Stokke® Xplory® sheepskin accessories are natural products. Stokke® has chosen to use natural sheepskin over possible artificial alternatives because of its superior looks, as well as its insulating, breathing, antistatic and even self-cleaning properties. It does, however, require special care to be kept in prime condition.
In principle, it is no problem for the fur to get wet, as it will resume its original shape when dried properly. However, we recommend to always use the stroller's rain cover in case of rain or snow, to protect all of the stroller's upholstery, as well as your baby, from the elements.
Natural sheep's wool does not need to be washed as frequently as regular fabrics, as it naturally contains lanolin (sheep wax), which gives it waterproofing and disinfecting qualities. Washing the fur too often would actually reduce these qualities in the product. It is often sufficient to clean the fur with a damp cloth. Regular brushing (a pet brush with thin metal bristles works best) and shaking will also help to keep it in good shape.
When you do decide to wash it, make sure to follow the instructions on the care label closely. Wash the product separately and never soak the material for an extended period. Only use wool mix detergents which do not contain enzymes or bleach. Any other types of detergent, even those for delicate materials, will change the properties and colour of the material and induce shrinkage. Hand wash in cold water (max 30° C). Spin on gentle cycle to remove excess water. After washing, hand-stretch and shake the fur while drying it on a flat surface at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight. Applying a direct source of heat (such as a blow dryer) to the fur will alter its texture and look.
Stokke® cannot accept damage to these products due to improper maintenance as grounds for complaints.
