What are Sorona® Bicomponent Stretch fibers ?
The Stokke® Sleepi™ mattress core (Launched September 2022) is made of 40% Sorona® Bicomponent Stretch fibre which is made from bio-polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) obtained from the fermentation of glucose of corn seeds. Because Sorona® polymer is partially plant based, it reduces reliance on fossil-based materials. The revolutionary Bio-PDO compound turns a formerly chemical process into an eco-efficient biological one.
The Material is also naturally fire retardant, breathable and provides a firm mattress surface.
Sorona® fiber has undergone stringent testing and has been proven to be safe for use by adult products with direct, prolonged skin contact, earning it Class l certification from Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®. Sorona® renewably sourced fiber is one of the first 11 products approved as part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred Program for certified bio-based products. -
Why is a firm mattress so important?
To reduce the risk of suffocation and CO2 Retention, Pedriatrics recommend the baby should sleep on his/her back on a firm mattress.
A soft surface may conform to the shape of the baby’s head and increase the risk that the baby breathe in his/her own exhaled breath (carbon dioxide).
The Stokke® Sleepi™ Mini mattress is made with multiple layers of breathable 3D mesh with a Sorona® Bicomponent Stretch fiber core to offer firmness, maximal airflow and to exceed the highest safety standards. -
Why is a breathable mattress so important?
A breathable mattress ensures that the air can circulate and remove the carbon dioxide exhaled by the baby. In this way, overheating is avoided. This is especially important when the little ones turn over onto their stomachs while sleeping and breathe into the mattress.

The mattress used for the Sleepi™ Junior is somewhat thicker, as it is meant for use by older and therefore heavier children. The type of foam used in the mattresses (polyurethane) is widely used in mattresses and the product fully complies with the latest European safety standards for baby cribs. The Stokke® Sleepi™ provides a balanced ventilation system through the design of the mattress, mattress cover and bottom. To ensure optimal air circulation, the bottom side of the mattress has a wavy pattern specially designed to remove excess body heat. The bottom side of the mattress cover is made of a mesh material and the plywood base supporting it has large openings, which further enhance air circulation. Together, these features keep your baby cool and help prevent the growth of fungus.
The Sleepi™ Cocomat is the certified fully organic alternative mattress to go with the Stokke® Sleepi™ Mini and Bed. It consists of organic coconut husk fibre (80%) and lambswool (20%), with covers of unbleached cotton.
